2013 VC Star All-County Boys Track Team

LAVAN ALSTON  ST. BONAVENTURE  100  Alston won the 100 meters at the Ventura County Championships in 10.77 seconds and added the 200 as well (21.74). He was also part of the 4x100 relay that won in 42.30. The Seraphs sophomore was also victorious in the same three events at the Tri-Valley League meet. At the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 Championships at Mount San Antonio College, Alston finished fourth in the 100 (10.74) and in the 200 (21.81), while the 4x100 relay placed second in 42.34. The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder enjoys playing football and basketball, watching ESPN, rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles and USC and eating collard greens and pasta. “Illegal Tender” is his favorite movie. Rappers Wiz Khalifa and Gucci Mane are his favorite recording artists. Alston lists “myself, Michael Jordan and (former St. Bonaventure wide receiver) Whitney Lewis” as his favorite athletes. Obed’s season was derailed at the Ventura County Championships when a hamstring injury caused him to pull up and fall during the 100 meters. He still managed to turn in a time of 21.55 seconds in the 200 meters at the Mount Carmel Invitational, which gave him the best time in the event in Ventura County and the 16th best time in the state. Obed also ran a 10.70 best in the 100, also tops in Ventura County and 22nd in the state. The 6-foot-1, 150-pound junior has a 4.52 GPA and made the principal’s honor roll. Hobbies include hunting, fishing and hiking. He enjoys watching “The Daily Show” and “Forrest Gump” and listening to Michael Jackson. Obed likes eating at McDonald’s. Sports choices include rooting for the Golden State Warriors and U.S. sprinter Justin Gatlin.

WESTLAKE

Finch was Ventura County champion in the 400 with a time of 49.29 seconds and took home the Marmonte League title in a sophomore-record 49.24. Finch placed third in the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 Championships in 49.27 at Mount SAC. He was also part of Westlake’s 4x400 relay team that set a school record of 3 minutes, 18.66 seconds and won the Marmonte League title in 3:23.30. Finch is a scholar-athlete with a weighted GPA of 4.0. He likes to play pingpong and watch “Shark Tank.” “Forrest Gump” is his favorite movie and he roots for the Florida Gators, Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees. His favorite dish is a well-done burger from The Habit.

KYLE MEDINA  VENTURA  800  Medina placed third in the 800 at the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Championships at Mount San Antonio College with a time of 1:53.27 after winning the Channel League championship in 1:57.40. Medina placed third in the 800 at the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Championships at Mount San Antonio College with a time of 1:53.27 after winning the Channel League championship in 1:57.40. He was ninth at the CIF-SS Masters Meet in 1:55.60 and his best time in the 800 was 1:53.27. A versatile runner, Medina’s other top marks include 23.71 in the 200, 50.60 in the 400 and 4:15.2 in the 1,600. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound senior plans to attend Cal State Chico. Feller captured the Ventura County championship in his event with a time of 4:19.03, a season-best for the 5-foot-11, 145-pound senior who plans to attend Moorpark College. He placed second at the Marmonte League Championships in 4:23.32. Feller took eighth place in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 finals in 4:31.97. Feller was named a scholar-athlete at Simi Valley. He lists skateboarding, hiking and eating candy as he hobbies. Entertainment choices include “Loiter Squad” on TV, “Borat” in movies and ASAP and Earl Sweatshirt in music. His favorite place for food is Taco Bell. He roots for the Lakers.

WESTLAKE

After helping Westlake to the state cross country championship, Giguere led a strong Warriors contingent into the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 Championships and won the 3,200 title with a time of 9:16.66. He was also the Marmonte League champion in the event at 9:28.72. Giguere’s top time in the 3,200 was set at the Mount SAC Relays (9:12.38). The 5-foot-6, 125-pound junior also had personal records in the 1,600 (4:18.24) and the 800 (1:58.04). Giguere is a scholar-athlete with a 3.8 GPA. He enjoys playing pingpong, eating pasta and rooting for the Lakers. RIO MESA

Teart finished second at the Ventura County Championships in 14.59 seconds and set a season best at the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 Championships with a time of 14.30. He finished seventh in the CIF-SS Masters Meet at 14.51. Teart also had a season best of 38.59 in the 300 hurdles. The 5-foot-11, 150-pound senior is headed to Cal State Northridge. Teart enjoys playing basketball and video games and eating sushi. His favorite TV show is “SpongeBob SquarePants” and his top movie is “Space Jam.” His favorite team is the Detroit Tigers and his favorite athlete is Vince Carter.


 JELANI LEGOHN  OXNARD  300 HURDLES  Legohn won the county title in the 300 hurdles in 38.45 seconds, won the Pacific View League championship and was second in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Championships at 37.81. Legohn plans to attend UC Davis after being named scholar-athlete of the year at Oxnard and graduating in the top 9 percent of his class. He also won a distinguished athlete award from the Marines. He played tenor drum in the Yellowjackets marching band and enjoys listening to Bob Marley. His favorite TV show is “The Boondocks” and his favorite dish is curried chicken with rice and roti. He was fourth in the Ventura County Championships at 6-0 and in the Marmonte League Championships at 5-10. The 6-foot, 165-pound junior enjoys fishing and rollerblading. His favorite TV show is “Tosh.0” and his top movies are “Space Jam” and “Ratatouille.” Nelson likes eating at Qdoba and listening to Meek Mill and Kendrick Lamar. His favorite team is the Minnesota Timberwolves and his favorite athlete is LeBron James.

LUIGI COLELLA  THOUSAND OAKS  POLE VAULT  The Star’s Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Colella won the California state championship in the pole vault with a leap of 16-4, becoming the first Ventura County athlete to win the event in 67 years. That came two weeks after winning the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 title with a lifetime-best 16-4¾, making him No. 2 all-time in Ventura County history. Colella also won the CIF-SS Masters Meet at 15-10 and was Marmonte League co-champion at 13-8. Colella enjoys surfing and skating. THOUSAND OAKS

The Star’s Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Colella won the California state championship in the pole vault with a leap of 16-4, becoming the first Ventura County athlete to win the event in 67 years. That came two weeks after winning the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 title with a lifetime-best 16-4¾, making him No. 2 all-time in Ventura County history. Colella also won the CIF-SS Masters Meet at 15-10 and was Marmonte League co-champion at 13-8. Colella enjoys surfing and skating. His favorite food is pasta and his favorite athlete is Michael Jordan.

Hansen, who is planning to attend Idaho State, made the academic honor roll at Moorpark and won the Principal’s Award. He enjoys playing sports and going to the beach.
