Head Coach

Coach Spencer has been involved in sports his whole life. It's this passion for sports that has led his desire and determination of helping students and turned it into a lifelong goal.

Coach Spencer has been coaching football and track and field for over 20 years at local high schools, colleges and universities. He has received numerous certifications and awards on many coaching staffs as assistant and head coach. Coach Spencer continues to educate himself by attending sports clinics and conventions every year. Coach Spencer has helped several athletes attain sports and academic scholarships to NCAA's, and NAIA's. Many athletes have become All-League, All-American, Nationally ranked and qualified for the Olympic trials.

Born and raised in Fostoria, Ohio. Attended Ohio State University on a partial scholarship for track and field, however being needed closer to home he transferred to the University of Findlay, where he received his Bachelor's of Science in Business Management. Coach Spencer was nationally ranked in football and track and field. Coach Spencer's philosophy, "I am not just a coach of sports. I am a life coach. A life coach is to believe in one's ability, while motivating student athletes to always improve their ability."

Sprints

James Craft has had many years of track and field experience. He has grown up in Ventura County, where he first started running track with the Ventura Tigre’s. While in Junior High, he competed with the Ventura Condors for postseason competition. For his three years of middle school postseason competition, he competed in Jr. Olympic and International Champions, which took place at the University of Oregon. He competed varsity track and field all four years of high school at Buena High School, in Ventura, Ca. From Buena, he competed at Ventura College then received a full ride athletic scholarship to Fresno State University where he ran the 200m, 400m, 4x100 and 4x400 while being coached by Nike Coach of the Year Bob Fraley. James and his fellow Bulldog teammates were the first Fresno State team to win the WAC outdoor championship, in 1994. After graduating from Fresno State, James has been working privately with athletes from multiple sports on speed training and running mechanics. During the 2013 season, he was the sprint coach at Kaiser High School, in Honolulu, Hawaii where he started to build a strong and competitive track and field team that experience great success in the OIA Conference. His personal focus as a coach is to develop athletes who will succeed on and off the track. This upcoming season at Thousand Oaks High School he will be training all 100, 200, 400, 4x100, 4x400 athletes. 

 

Coach Marc Orfanos

Hurdles / Jumps

Marc Orfanos has been coaching Track and Field since 1981.He has coached at the youth and high school levels, as well as coaching open and college athletes. He specializes in the hurdles and the high jump, but has also coached the sprints, long jump and javelin. For the last twelve seasons he has coached with the T.O Flyers Youth Track Club. This upcoming season (2014) will be his second official season with the Thousand Oaks High School Track team.

Distance

Andy Thompson has been coaching cross country and track at TOHS since 2007. Coach Andy’s loyalty to TOHS runs deep, not only as a coach for the past 7 years, but also as a former student athlete, graduating in 2001. After his career as a Lancer, he went on to compete at the NCAA Division1 level for Loyola Marymount University. Since joining the TOHS coaching staff, he has coached teams and individuals to CIF Prelims, Finals and State meet appearances. Andy’s focus is on developing athletes of strong character first; followed by the commitment towards the process of training; all of which leading towards the principal of competing to win. Andy is excited to take TOHS Track and Cross Country to the next level.

Coach Jeff McCann

Strength & Conditioning

Coach McCann enters his fourth year with the Lancer athletic program as the school’s Strength & Conditioning coach. He brings eight years of sports performance experience at the high school and college level to Thousand Oaks High School as well as a; USAW Sports Performance Coach Certification. Coach McCann was the Assistant Strength & Conditioning coach at the University of Idaho from 2008-2009. Coach McCann trained the Vandal’s Football, Swimming & Diving, Track & Field, and Tennis teams in the weight room.

Coach McCann has previously served as the Strength and Conditioning coach at Alemany, and Calabasas High School. During his tenure as the Strength and Conditioning coach, Alemany won back to back Mission League Championships in football and had several Track and Field athletes go on to CIF, Masters and State. Coach McCann played wide receiver and kick returner at Whitworth University. While at Whitworth, Coach McCann earned a B. A. in History, American Studies, and a minor in English. Coach McCann also obtained his Masters in Science and Leadership

 

Coach Cleveland Hagans

Shot Put and Discus

Coach Hagans has been involved with track & field for about 13 years. Coach was born in Riverside, but grew up in Moreno Valley, CA. Coach made varsity for throwers as a freshman in high school. Coach competed in shot put, discus, and the 100 meters. As a senior he was undefeated in the discus and broke the school record. Coach went to Riverside City College and competed in track and field for two years. Coach competed in the hammer, discus, and shot put events. Coach Hagans made the top 20 throwers list. Coach is attending California State Northridge where he competed for two years. Coach Hagans has been coaching successfully for 6 years. Coach Hagans uses his experience to help coach the athletes and pass on the knowledge to them.

Pole Vault

Coach Burnett has been coaching Pole Vault at TOHS for 4 years, and has lived in T.O. for 25 years. Coach has been a long-time TOHS supporter and has two alumni daughters, both very involved in dance and cheer programs throughout their school years. Originally from Akron, Ohio, Coach was a pole vaulter in high school and college and held set his high school record for several years until his younger brother decided it was his turn!

Coach Burnett has a Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Kent State University and has taught several years at the high school and college level. Coach has a boundless passion for the sport of Pole Vault, one that is as exhilarating as it is difficult, and is a true believer in conditioning, hard work and mastering the details in order to “raise the bar” for every student-athlete Coach feels extremely fortunate to have had such a great, courteous, respectful group of TOHS student vaulters in previous years, who hopes he has affected with his passion and knowledge of the sport. The team has produced many league and CIF qualifiers in Pole Vault in past years and even a state champion in 2013. Coach Burnett is expecting 2014 to be even more exciting as the interest and participation in Pole Vault continues to grow and evolve here at Thousand Oaks High School.
